Yeah, now that the droid is on the market and a lot of other phones have the same look as the iphone, I think iphone users complained that people don't notice that they have the real iphone unless they tell them. The solution? make it so big that people will notice and say "Damn! that guy has an iphone! He must BE somebody!"

Ok, so call me a bandwagon elitest etc etc. I want one. And I'm not a gungho apple freak, yes I do have an iPhone and I am very pleased with it, an I have been wanting a tablet pc for exactly what the ipad is for "surfing the web" and I think for $500 it's pretty freaking cheap

I like this Idea. I don't like how they did it... In true apple form they left out things only to be added on as "expansion" items you have to buy... For example there is no build in SD or USB ports... but, they are available in the dock you can buy separately.

I would like to see a similar tablet style computer like this from a non-Apple company with a 20gb or so SSD with build in USB and SD slots. Your storage expansion would be limitless and would make it worth while.

In a few years the technology will be hopefully down into the $300-400 range.

Kinda sucks that it can't run internet radio and take notes at the same time... Especially for $500... and having a 1ghz processor...

Droid does internet radio, while playing a game, pausing the game to read a text, then back to the game still running when done... All on a 600ghz processor.

Like I said, it's a GREAT idea and there will be some great products to come from these little tablet touch screens but, you get faster technology and larger storage space/connectivity with a $300 netbook that runs on the same 3g/WiFi.

I wasn't saying it was a phone... It's 9.5in x 7.5in duh it's not a phone... I was merely using it as an example.

But for something that has 1ghz and no multitask... I mean if it's designed to read books/mags and do the internet but, couldn't play backround MP3's while I was surfing the web or looking at the latest Performance VW when a $300 netbook could... Whats the real use? Or I have to be a separate dock and then a separate cable to connect a camera? or TV?

Hooray for Apple to 'pioneer' a mainstream idea... but you can't replace a netbook if it only has half the functionality.

Needs:
-Built in USB
-Built in SD
-Multitask

Could use...
-HDMI output (neat but not neccesary)

The way I envision the ipad:

A: as a sales person: sitting on the lot, I can browse the internet to kill time, costumer walks up I can turn the ipad into a note pad to write down stock numbers or pull inventory from the internet. I can use the Calendar app to add an appointment for their next visit and because it runs on the Apple eco system that data gets backup to my iphone and Macbook automatically. when they leave, its back to using it to kill time and play an game from the app store while I listen to music from iTunes. I can also use iWork to keep track of my sales on a spread sheet and open that same document on my other Macs.

B. as a photographer: I can carry my portfolio in the iPad, I can show clients my work, view pics I just took using the SD card reader, I can view my calendar for available dates and since it is the same calendar data it shares with my iMac at home, Macbook pro on the road and iPhone in my pocket I know I wont have any scheduling conflicts.

C. as an Volkswagen owner: new VWs come with an iPod cable built in, I can use said cable to charge it and play music from it while leaving my 12V out free for other things. it can also be used and over sized nav system (using iphone apps that it can already run). all the while the passenger is using it to browse the internet and not be bored in long drives.

D. as an average joe: I can use it to watch movies on the plane, to read a book before bed, it can replace all those heavy textbooks I use for college and the notebook I use to take notes and to record the lecture.

all these things in something that is 1.5 pounds and VERY portable. I can not wait to get one.
